Amazon rolls out tools for Alexa developers to make money

There are now over 40,000 skills for the smart assistant, all of which will remain free and allow the consumer to fully assess the quality of the skill before they purchase any extra features or content.

"PAC-MAN™ is an iconic character and storytelling and interactive adventures allow us to work with some unique talents, writers, developers and actors to provide an innovative experience".

Bringing together recognisable brands and characters, the apps have been specifically built for kids, aiming to be both educational and fun.

Kids, armed with an Alexa device and their Legos, will choose from ten "stories" centering around vehicles and animals.

Additionally, the spokesperson said that "a select few of the most engaging skills can expect to earn more than $100,000 over the course of a year".

PAC-MAN STORIES is the very first announced project from the new Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe Innovation Department, which aims to find and develop new areas and heights in entertainment. Kids will, following instructions from Alexa, enact the stories with Lego figurines.

Moshi Twilight offers bedtime stories created to help kids get to sleep at night. It features stories with "melodies and calming narration" and "guided relaxations and soothing sounds".

Finally, there's Amazon Storytime, which includes an ever-expanding set of narrated short stories from noted personalities. They're read by Aidy Bryant (from Saturday Night Live) and Tom Kenny (the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants). I bet Alexa skill developers start raking in the cash just like all of those mobile app developers are with micro-transactions.

One of the first skills to use this capability is 1-800-Flowers, which asks that you turn on Amazon Pay in the Alexa app.

Other skills for kids will also be available, including Sesame Street, Panda Rescue, Would You Rather Family and Fun Kids Radio.
