Authorities Investigate California Explosion as Intentional

"We have not found any type of specific device inside of the building right now that would tell us or lead us to exactly what the device was - if there was a device", Sawyer said.

The official was briefed on the investigation but wasn't authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Investigators believe an explosion at a medical office in southern California that killed one woman may have been intentional, USA media reports say.

The explosion blew out walls and windows, heavily damaging the first floor corner of the two-story building and hurling debris outside, said Capt.

"Anytime you see an explosion of this magnitude, it would definitely be suspicious to us and that's why we rolled out all the resources to get to the bottom of it", he said.

Mary McWilliams informed The Register that she arrived for an appointment to seek out smoke surrounding the realm and automobile alarms going off.

McWilliams says she saw two women covered in ash and soot stagger out of the building. The other woman was burned and her head was bleeding. The injured were taken to a hospital.

Carrie Braun, an Orange County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman, said authorities were working to determine if the explosion was an accident or an intentional act, the newspaper reported.

Authorities say one person is dead and three others have injuries after an explosion rocked a Southern California office building. Tony Bommarito and sheriff's officials said later that was not the case.

The blast involved a building under renovation but the cause was not immediately known, Fennessy said. The reason for the blast is being investigated.

Children at a day care across the street from the building were evacuated.

Children and staff at the nearby Academy on the Hills preschool initially sheltered in place while the investigation continued, but children were later evacuated to a nearby Target parking lot so they could be reunited with their parents.

Brian Fennessy, the Orange County Fireplace Authority chief, stated 70 firefighters had been dispatched in response to the decision in Aliso Viejo at 1:09 p.m. native time. The woman who died was inside the building when the blast occurred.
