Barca hold on for draw against Real - five things we learned

Things got testy between the two teams before the break as Barca were reduced to 10 men when Sergi Roberto was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident with Marcelo.

Ronaldo was substituted by Zidane at half-time, with Marcos Asensio coming on for Madrid and playing a role in the Clasico draw.

- Cristiano Ronaldo (449) and Lionel Messi (551) scored 1000 goals combined in La Liga. "But it was the referee's decision".

The 33-year-old received hugs from some Real Madrid players, before looking the most assured player on the pitch in a largely low-key first half.

Barca, already crowned champions, remain 15 points ahead of Real in the table but this clash was about more than just points.

The second half then featured the teams trading goals once again, as Messi's strike was cancelled out by Bale's powerful equaliser. If the knock that saw the latter depart at half-time turns out to be serious, the issues becomes moot in the UEFA Champions League final, but if not, it's a tactical decision he has to make. The hope will be that Ronaldo played on for 31 minutes after his collision with Gerard Pique because the damage was not significant, rather than made it worse to avoid sitting out a Clasico.

"They played well and so did we.We had a good opportunity to win today, clearly, we had a lot of chances to score, especially in the first half, in the end it was a draw and that's that, there are two games left and, in the end, Barcelona will finish the season unbeaten", Zidane said. It says much about the impact of the player that Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane waited patiently for several minutes outside the Barca dressing room in order to embrace Iniesta after the game.

Real did not put the ball out of play at the time, angering Barca players.

The Argentine worldwide was said to have demanded explanation from the match official for sending his teammate out of the game on the stroke of half time.

A resurgent Chelsea sealed a fifth successive victory when Olivier Giroud headed in the only goal against Liverpool, which has only one win in five league games. He led Madrid's push forward and was only stopped when Marc-Andre ter Stegen closed out to block his shot.

At the end of the half Ramos struck Suarez.

Atletico Madrid lost 2-0 to Espanyol for its first home defeat of the league season. No other manager has ever won more than three.
