The Congress delegation also handed over a memorandum to the EC along with details of the "objectionable" advertisements taken out by the BJP.

"We arrived in Badami in over 15 vehicles and are trying to persuade the Valmikis not to vote for the Congress as the state government has not extended reservation to the community in education and employment as ordered by the High Court,", said Hyderabad-Karnataka Valmiki-Nayak Sangh divisional president and former Kalaburgi Municipal Corporation deputy mayor, Nandakumar Patil.

Party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters that the advertisements were "highly objectionable".

The committee restrained the media yesterday from airing or sharing the advertisements on the ground that they were violative of guidelines. "This is a clear violation of the Model Code of Conduct and a criminal offence under the provisions of Representation of People's Act, 1951", the BJP memorandum said. "We have demanded the Election Commission that immediate stoppage (on such advertisments)", Singhvi said.

It further stated that print advertisements were published across various newspapers in Karnataka with intent to malign the image of Congress President Rahul Gandhi and state Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah by levelling false and unverified allegations and distortions against them. Shadow images of both leaders were allegedly used in the advertisements.

Pressure cookers with names of Congress leaders embossed on them have been found but no action was taken by the state election commission officials, they said.

"These advertisements have been issued knowingly and willfully with the intention of consolidating votes on basis of religion and to gain electoral advantage over other political parties", it alleged. "The EC has assured us of looking into the issue and action", he said. "In view of the above, it is also just and necessary for this Commission to take cognizance of these illegal and unlawful acts and prosecute responsible bodies and individuals in accordance with law", the Congress demanded.

Congress star campaigner and youth leader Jyothiraradya Madavarao Scindia on Thursday claimed that Congress will retain power in Karnataka after May 12 election to the Legislative Assembly.
