IPL 2018, RR vs KXIP: Ajinkya Rahane's Royals seek revenge against visitors

Rajasthan Royals displayed a disciplined bowling effort as 5 out of the 7 bowlers used by captain.

Batting first, it was the same old story for Rajasthan Royals - One batsman contributing and setting the stage for a big total, the others squandering the opportunity and the team ending with a subpar total.

Ajinkya Rahane (RR captain), "Really happy with the way we played". Rahane (9) wasn't able to add much as he lost his wicket in the fourth over and Gowtham (8) was the next to go as he was dismissed in the seventh.

"I wish we could have 2 or 3 Jos Buttlers, you can have him down the order, in the middle and at the top". The English all-rounder has scored just 160 runs from nine innings while picking up just two wickets. He dismissed Gayle on the very first ball sending the unsafe opener back with just one run to his name. Sanju Samson made 22 but Andre Tye (4-34) claimed three wickets in the final over to help restrict the hosts, albeit their final score always looked competitive.

With Star India now acquiring the media rights from Sony Pictures Network India for the upcoming season, the matches will be telecast on various Star Sports channels.

"Yes I admit that we rely heavily on Chris Gayle and KL Rahul but that is the case with nearly every team". Nair's dismissal at an individual score of 3 - when the scoreboard read 19/3 - meant Kings were in a spot of bother and the hosts smelled an opportunity. KL Rahul once again carried his bat through as he scored unbeaten 95, but that wasn't enough to take KXIP home. It would have been a good foundation to build up the chase but Punjab could not form a decent partnership. Falling short of 15 runs, KXIP accepted via RR's hand. Also, pacers Barinder Sran and Andrew Tye, and Afghan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman shoulder the bulk of the responsibility.

After Over 10: KXIP - 55 runs with the loss of 4 wickets.

They are taking on Punjab, placed third in the table, just two days after losing to them by six wickets in Indore, where neither the bowlers nor the batsmen could do a convincing job. However, he could be forgiven as he had only bowled 1 over. By contrast, Jaydev Unadkat gave away the most runs with 36 for 1 wicket and an economy of 9.00.

The dream start was provided by Krishnappa Gowtham as the off-spinner sent back the unsafe Chris Gayle with the first ball of the third over.
