Slight Risk for Severe Storms This Evening

Each day will feature a chance of showers and thunderstorms primarily in the afternoon and evening.

The storms will be scattered, but "a few of these may become severe" and that could mean damaging wind and large hail, the weather service said.

Added to the mix is a very slight threat of isolated tornadoes in New Jersey - a 2 percent probability, according to the eastern regional office of the National Weather Service.

The highest risk of severe weather will be east of St. Louis after about 3 p.m., and storms will generally slide south into Wednesday night. This will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon into Friday evening. The weather service forecast for Kansas City, Kansas, says there is a 20 percent chance of rain both nights.

Friday will be dry and cooler with highs in the mid-70s, before things heat back up to almost 90 degrees on Saturday. A south wind of 5 to 11 miles per hour will gust as high as 23 miles per hour. The temperature will hit a high in the low to mid-60s both weekend days, the weather service said.

Sunday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 88, the weather service said.
