Colombia vs Poland: Radamel Falcao scores as Colombia thrash Poland 3-0

Things may not have gone as spectacularly for Rodriguez as he would have liked since that World Cup, but he's still Colombia's best player, its creative force and one of its main goal-scoring threats.

With the second round of Group H games in the books, the Kwese Sports panel examine the three-horse race between Colombia, Senegal and Japan. "I want, and we want, to share it with him", he said.

"They were seen as one of the favourite teams coming into the World Cup, so I'm expecting a very hard match, a very intense match".

Quintero played creator in the 70th minute and Falcao turned the last defender before stroking the ball past Szczesny with the outside of his boot for his first World Cup strike.

The respite was brief and on the next Colombia attack Juan Quintero found Rodriguez lurking inside the box and the midfielder chipped a delightful cross into the danger area for Mina to head the ball into the net from point-blank range.

The pressure is now on, not just for Rodriguez, but in the knowledge that Jose Nestor Pekerman's six-and-a-half-year stint - only three other coaches at the World Cup have been in place longer - in charge would have a huge stain should Colombia lose against a Poland side ranked eighth by Federation Internationale de Football Association and also needing a result.

Colombia gradually settled in, though, with Quintero providing attacking width and Cuadrado proving unsafe with his subtle moves on the edge of the box. Quintero came close in the 56th minute on the break, but his goal-bound shot took a deflection.

Poland's star striker Robert Lewandowski cut a frustrated figure up front due to a lack of service, as Adam Nawalka's charges were playing from deep in their own half.

Given his first start after fully recovering from a calf injury, Rodriguez lived up to expectations.

There will be a weight of expectation on his shoulders when Colombia face Senegal in their final group game on Thursday.

It means that in the last two tournaments, no player has been involved in more goals than James. He pressed relentlessly, tracked back and delivered an assist for Mina.

Colombia's Yerry Mina scored the goal for Colombia in the do-or-die match against Poland.

None of Poland's nine World Cup games against South American opponents has finished as a draw, with the Eagles winning four and losing five.

"Colombia are an excellent team with an excellent coach".
