Egypt’s Mo Salah mulling over international retirement

Egypt’s Mo Salah mulling over international retirement

Although nothing is likely to be decided before the conclusion of this summer's World Cup, this may be one issue that Salah and the Egyptian FA may not be able to bridge.

Liverpool star Mo Salah is considering ending his worldwide career when the World Cup reaches its conclusion.

"Mohamed Salah is an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic!"

Salah was reported to be unhappy after being photographed with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

After scoring 44 goals for the Reds last season, the Egyptian was a player many were very excited about seeing in action in Russian Federation but a serious shoulder injury suffered in the first half of the Champions League final caused him to miss the opening game of the World Cup.

Egypt striker Amr Gamal said that Salah's injury "killed" their chances of success and now the Liverpool striker could quit global football due to his fury at being used for political gain during the tournament. A source with knowledge of Salah's position on the matter confirmed this stance to ESPN FC, adding that the player is now considering his future with his national team. Kadyrov posed with Salah and Hany Abo Ride, chairman of Egypt's football federation for pictures.

"That's right! I gave Mohamed Salah a copy of the order and a pin at a celebratory dinner that I gave in honour of the Egyptian team".

The Chechnya leader is a controversial figure at home and overseas, having been accused of human rights abuses and the murder of homosexuals in his homeland.

'Mohamed Salah thanked us for the surprisingly warm and good reception, excellent attitude to the team, excellent living conditions and training, ' Kadyrov posted on Russian social network site VK.

Salah was honoured during a banquet held to bid farewell to the Egypt squad held at Kadyrov's presidential palace in Grozny on Friday night.

Salah had been pictured with Kadyrov, who was accused of using the player for political propaganda.

Salah had a disagreement with the EFA in April over his image rights.
