Kim summit to be held at Capella Hotel

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced the location today in a tweet that also thanked the "great Singaporean hosts for their hospitality" (that's us, you guys).

In a meeting that lasted more than an hour Friday with one of Kim's top deputies, Kim Yong Chol, Trump said he did not raise the issue of human rights.

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad plans to pay a state visit to North Korea, the North's official news agency says.

But the public relations value of such a historic event could quickly fade if Trump fails, in return, to wring any significant concessions from Kim toward the dismantling of his nuclear arsenal, former US officials and analysts say.

"And the President will make his views known directly to him when we're in Singapore, and our focus will continue to be on denuclearisation", Sanders said.

Evans Revere, a former USA negotiator with North Korea, said any kind of joint peace declaration at this stage - when Pyongyang has shown no real willingness to give up its nuclear programme - would be premature.

The gold, silver and nickel-plated medallions feature an engraving of the flags of the USA and North Korea, the date and location of the summit, and a handshake.

National Security Adviser John Bolton was absent from President Donald Trump's meeting with a top North Korean official last week. Cheong Wa Dae and the foreign ministry have stated that a trip to Singapore by Moon has not been decided.

White House officials say the plight of the North Korean people, who live under one of the world's most repressive governments, is not a priority for the summit.

Asked whether the US maximum-pressure campaign against North Korea would continue, Sanders said USA policy had not changed and Washington continued to maintain tough sanctions on Pyongyang.

Experts have voiced concern that despite Trump's claim to be the world's greatest dealmaker, he knows little about North Korea, arms control or worldwide diplomacy.

"I really think it would be a mistake to overload the agenda", said Joseph Yun, who served as the United States' special representative for North Korea policy until March, a role in which he secured the release of American student Otto Warmbier, who died shortly after his return.

They are "finalizing preparations and will remain in place until the summit begins", said Sanders. Even the president has scaled back his aspirations, going from promising a deal to telling the media that June 12 will be more of a "getting-to-know-you" meeting.

Gen Kim Yong-chol's visit came a day after he met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in NY, who described their talks of denuclearisation as "substantive".

Kosinski told anchor Brooke Baldwin that sources have said Bolton "wanted to throw this big monkey wrench into the works, possibly blow up the entire process of talks because he felt that it wouldn't end up in the U.S.'s favor in the end".

Washington has called that unacceptable and demanded North Korea embark on full and verifiable denuclearization.
