"I mean this game is over and done with we had our opportunities", James said.

James was not interested in giving any kind of explanation regarding what might have been going through Smith's head in the final seconds. That's why he's the best player in the world. He passed the ball to Hill, whose shot was missed as time expired.

The Warriors outscored the Cavaliers 17-7 in OT and afterwards Lue told reporters: "He [Smith] thought it was over". I knew I was outside the charge line, so that's what the communication was to us. I thought we all knew what the situation was.

The Cavaliers nearly had a ideal start to the 2018 NBA Finals after many had written off their chances of beating the reigning champions.

During his postgame press conference Thursday night, James was, predictably and repeatedly, asked about Smith's failure to recognize that the score was tied near the end of regulation. It was determined he was out of the restricted area, but he was not in a legal guarding position prior to Durant's separate shooting motion.

Then there was Cavs icon LeBron James and Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry, engaging in a bit of trash talk and a playful push, after the former blocked the latter's shot in overtime. And then tonight in the finals on the biggest stage, when our team played well, played our ass off, man, it ain't right.

James notched his eighth 40-point game during this playoff run to tie Hall of Famer Jerry West's feat in 1965 for most in a single post-season. Tristan Thompson got ejected for doing something, presumably, although it's unclear what exactly that something was. "It's going to be a tough series".

Beyond what James said on the record, ESPN's Brian Windhorst said on "SportsCenter" after the game that James' anger with the call went beyond anything that he had seen from him in his career. It was great, it was epic and James did enough to carry this team to a victory. "But I think it's worked out for us both in these four years so far since I've been back". James also found time for eight rebounds and a team-high eight assists. But it wasn't enough when Curry answered with a three-point play and Smith made his blunder.

Golden State's Stephen Curry scored 29 points as Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson scored 26 and 24 points respectively.

Draymond Green missed a triple-double by one assist, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win, while adding five steals and three blocks.
