Trump defends 'brave' ICE agents as Dems call to abolish agency

Nine people were arrested Thursday morning after federal officers in riot gear moved in to clear the entrance to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement holding facility in Southwest Portland.

(ICE also mislabels some immigrants as gang members in order to deport them.) Along with the hosts' efforts, guests on the network lie and mislead about immigration issues to defend the agency's critical role in President Donald Trump's agenda of implementing mass deportations. The letter goes on to say that other jurisdictions will work with them only if "ICE" is not included in any public documents about the work.

In a series of tweets, Trump praised the agency as "one of the smartest, toughest and most spirited law enforcement groups of men and women that I have ever seen".

The former "Sex and the City" star made headlines by calling ICE a "terrorist organization", while Gillibrand said Thursday night that it's time to "get rid of [ICE and] start over".

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic socialist candidate who achieved a shocking win Tuesday over Rep. Joe Crowley in the New York Democratic primary, touted the abolition of ICE as a key platform in her campaign. "I have watched ICE liberate towns from the grasp of MS-13 & clean out the toughest of situations". Homan also said the protesters "need to educate themselves" about ICE's activities and that they are seeking "better rules for illegal alien families than we have for USA citizen families".

"We're calling out the state of OR for allowing ICE ... to operate within our borders", Sinclair said.

Gillibrand explained that the USA should be working instead to protect families that need help, "and that is not what ICE is doing today, and that's why I believe you should get rid of it, start over, reimagine it and build something that actually works". He added that the "radical left Dems" would try to abolish all police if ICE was abolished. Next it will be all police.

Republicans and immigration hardliners have welcomed the Democratic shift on the issue, believing that it spells electoral victory for the GOP outside of Democratic enclaves like NY and California. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., tweeted this week.
