19 injured in South Africa plane crash, Africa News & Top Stories

At least 20 people have been injured in a plane crash near the city of Pretoria in South Africa.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said that ER24 paramedics‚ along with several other services‚ were now on the scene treating and triaging the injured. "We have 19 injured casualties ranging from minor to critical injuries at this stage".

Social media photos showed the plane's fuselage broken, dented, and charred, amid a plume of smoke.

Local emergency services posted a picture on Twitter showing passengers being helped from the burning wreckage of a plane in a grassy field.

Pieterse said the plane hit a small factory premises where two patients were seriously hurt.

The Aviodrome aerospace theme park in the Netherlands said on its Facebook page that it was "hugely shocked" by the crash.

The large plane appeared to have crashed through a nearby building, the official said.

According to the Aviodrome's website, it cost €350,000 (US$410,000) to make the plane "flight ready" and buy parts for the planned trip to Europe.

A spokesman for Martin's Air also said it did not know what had prompted the incident.

South African Civil Aviation Authority said it will issue a statement with further details on Wednesday.
