Atlanta Hawks leaning toward Luka Doncic with third pick in NBA Draft

The Atlanta Hawks added a new floor leader to their rebuilding effort by acquiring point guard Trae Young from the Dallas Mavericks in Thursday night's exchange of National Basketball Association draft picks with the Dallas Mavericks.

Doncic confirmed after the Hawks drafted him that the Mavs have been in discussions with him, although the trade has yet to be announced. Dallas is in rebuilding process and Doncic is the flawless guy to build around. At 19 years of age, he was crowned the 2018 EuroLeague MVP and EuroLeague Final Four MVP for leading Real Madrid to the title.

Villanova saw three players get picked in the first round: Mikal Bridges with Phoenix; Donte DiVincenzo with the Milwaukee Bucks and Omari Spellman with Atlanta. "Obviously he gets a lot of notoriety for his long-range shooting, but I think his ability to pass the ball is what we really liked about him".

Hawks fans can also be happy with Young, Spellman and Devonte Graham, a second rounder from Kansas.

The Dallas Mavericks traded up to No. 3 to get Luka Doncic, giving up a 2019 first-round pick to jump two spots.

Last season we saw All-Star Jimmy Butler traded from the Bulls to the Timberwolves on draft night, and this year the Mavericks and Hawks kicked off the in-draft dealing by swapping top-five picks. According to a report from Tim MacMahon, the Mavericks are planning to keep Doncic out of Las Vegas Summer League next month.

No. 24. Portland Trail Blazers: Grayson Allen, Duke This is higher than most mock drafts, but Allen would fit right in with CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard.

Draft night will be a celebratory one for the Alabama coach, who is seated at the green room table of star Crimson Tide point guard Collin Sexton.

And they have got their man with the Hawks receiving Trae Young in return. Most list him at around 6-foot-7.

"Doncic's next destination was a focal point of many a conversation over the course of the weekend", Givony wrote from the EuroLeague Final Four. "It's a whole different level from where he's played to where he's about to play". In this time, they have made the playoffs 4 of the years only to be sent home after the first round in each.

Just like he had at OU, Young stole the spotlight at the draft, this time with his outfit, proudly boasting that "nobody has ever worn shorts to the draft". They also have the No. 34 overall pick in the second round.
