Germany Deserved To Go Out, Low Admits

Germany went 1-0-2 in the Tournament with their only win coming against Sweden when Toni Kroos scroed the game victor deep into added time.

He said: "I had the feeling that there was perhaps a certain arrogance before the Mexico game (within the camp) - like we would be able to react at the touch of a button when it all starts".

Germany finished bottom of Group F after Wednesday's dramatic 2-0 loss to South Korea - while England are already through to the last 16 ahead of Thursday's match against Belgium.

The return of Ozil is the main talking point as Germany go in search of the win which would guarantee them a place in the next round.

'At this tournament we didn't deserve to win again or move to the round of 16.

"The situation is very hard to put into words", he told ZDF.

"It is a really, really bitter evening for us", admitted Hummels, who squandered a late chance when he headed over.

Brazil struggled in its opening two matches, first held to a 1-1 draw and then needing late goals to win the other.

Andersson said: "The whole group is still alive so we will have to lick our wounds and come back for the last game". Toni Kroos hit a last-gasp victor against Sweden which kept the defending champs in the competition. "We did a fantastic job today". I think we tried our best, it wasn't a lack of effort.

Andersson said he refused to take any pleasure in the demise of the Germans whom he had accused of distasteful celebrations when they beat Sweden.

The Herald Business' sports page said, "The German Goliath went from composure to tears in 99 minutes", while Yonhap News said "after defeats at the 1994 and 2002 World Cups, South Korea finally stopped the German tank". A narrow 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia shortly before catching the plane to Russian Federation was their first win in six matches and you had to go back to a 5-1 victory over Azerbaijan in October 2017 to see their last win before beating the Saudis.

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has hit out at his squad and branded his side's performances in the World Cup as "pathetic" after Die Mannschaft were eliminated from the tournament in the group stages.

Sweden won the group and will play Switzerland on Tuesday in St. Petersburg.
