I don’t fear for my England T20 career, says Joe Root

While India will be buoyed by their 2-1 T20 series win, England, the top-ranked ODI team in world cricket, come into the series having crushed a below-par Australia 5-0 in their last bilateral engagement.

But on Thursday, albeit with opener Alex Hales missing with a side injury that has ruled him out of the entire series, Yadav removed an England top three of Jason Roy, Test skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in a stunning spell of three wickets for five runs in 10 balls. The prospect of Kuldeep in whites in the first Test at Edgbaston with England's batsmen just as clueless as to when he is bowling his googly or not, is a worry. He is expected to be out of action for three or four weeks and will not, therefore, feature for England in the rest of the series.

Kuldeep sounded a fresh warning after running through the home team batting: "I don't believe in a bowling machine". In that light, the English batsmen will have to contend mentally with how to play Yadav on Saturday.

With yet another crucial knock against England during the first ODI at Trent Bridge, the Indian captain once again proved why he is rated as one of the best batsmen in the world, especially in the limited-overs format.

At the start of the 13th over, Joe Root was befuddled by a ripping leg break and was trapped lbw. This could inspire a promotion for Buttler to number three tomorrow. Apart from Kuldeep, Umesh bagged a couple of wickets leaking 70 runs from his 9.5 overs.

Despite the grass, there wasn't much swing available in either game, yet this move did just enough to blunt the wrist spinners.

Stokes and Buttler then forged a 93-run stand to inch England near the 200-run mark before Kuldeep shot another bullet in opposition's line-up.

It remains to be seen if the wicket at Lord's and Headingley (Leeds) thereafter will have any green on the surface.

For the 50-over series, Farbrace will revert to his role as assistant to Trevor Bayliss, who returns to the helm after some time taking in England Lions and county cricket. The two teams scored at 8-plus per over. These two guys since they have come into the team they have been the difference for us.

The 29-year-old Nottinghamshire player, who will be monitored on a match-by-match basis, has been replaced in the squad by Middlesex batsman David Malan.

Joe Root remains confident he can carve out a future as a T20 player despite being dropped from the England side. They won with more than nine overs to spare and never even looked stretched doing that.

Barring any unforeseen fitness issues, the same playing eleven could feature at Lord's. On a pitch where the average score in the last five years has been in excess of 300, to be bundled out for 268 and that too without two of India's most experienced bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, will make England think long and hard about how to go about putting up a challenging total.

It will be a comfortable bus journey from Nottingham to London for the Men in Blue.

"Yes it does (present opportunities to grab spots) and ahead of a World Cup that's what you want".

For Root, this series holds prime personal importance.

Match starts at: 3.30 pm IST.
