ICE Investigators Want The Agency Split In Two

President Trump has gone on the attack against Democratic lawmakers who have called for abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, seeking to seize a political advantage on an issue that has put him on the defensive for weeks.

Two of Trump's tweets were about ICE.

Many anti-Trump activists, who are driving the Twitter hashtag #abolishICE, have celebrated the moves by Gillibrand, Harris and others.

Federal Protective Services says these people can protest, just not in front of the ICE building.

Homan also said the protesters "need to educate themselves" about ICE's activities and that they are seeking "better rules for illegal alien families than we have for USA citizen families".

And by Saturday, Republicans were no longer able to ignore the movement's fast-growing momentum.

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif has said that the US should consider "starting from scratch" while Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., announced Monday that he would be introducing a bill to abolish the agency.

Protesters said that their long-term goal was to abolish ICE, Ault reports.

His proposal would create a commission, the objective of which would be to issue recommendations to Congress and identify the essential functions of ICE that can be returned to other federal agencies. It has no accountability. "We are always going to need immigration enforcement, Martha, we know that". His statement also came the same day as nationwide protests against Trump's hardline immigration stance and his administration's policy separating immigrant children from their families and on ICE for allegedly terrorizing immigrant communities with what opponents believe are unjustified arrests.

Nineteen senior investigators at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) have called for the law enforcement agency, responsible for both national security investigations and deportation of undocumented migrants, to be disbanded.

"The Democrats are making a strong push to abolish ICE, one of the smartest, toughest and most spirited law enforcement groups of men and women that I have ever seen", he tweeted. ICE agents "are the guys that go in and take MS-13, and they take them out", said Trump, referring to the violent Salvadoran gang, during an interview with Fox News.

The White House has not commented on Vitiello or a permanent replacement.

ICE, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, has been controversial since "sanctuary cities" have been uncooperative in arresting illegal immigrants and aiding federal agents in removal proceedings.
