Ozil resignation took Germany coach Loew by surprise

Ozil resignation took Germany coach Loew by surprise

He added that Ozil's critics "could not stomach" the photograph of the soccer star and Erdogan that prompted criticism ahead of the World Cup.

Ozil has been generally praised by members of the football fraternity for speaking out on the matter. Not because of some picture, of of political decision.

The stopper began by quoting a section of the extensive letter Ozil posted on Sunday, explaining his global retirement, before adding: "Stand for Ozil and say no to racism".

Since the World Cup, nobody within the DFB has lost their job and the head coach has been retained, while Ozil has been victimised with the larger problems that led to their Russian failure ignored and brushed aside. According to the player, only the intervention of head coach Low and team manager Oliver Bierhoff ensured he would then take part in Russian Federation.

"He is trying to divert attention away from the real issue, the issue of racism and discrimination in Germany, which is resurging once again within everyday German society".

The Nigerian global was in and out of the Arsenal team throughout last season but is thought to be in new boss Unai Emery's plans for the campaign ahead. His retirement has more to do with politics, and Germany's social fissures.

One of German football's legends, former and World Cup-winning captain Lothar Matthaus, was critical of Ozil, but instead dissected the midfielder's playing career rather than his off-the-field activities, claiming Ozil's performances for Germany had been sub-par for some time and that alone warranted being dropped.

He has 92 caps and has been voted the national team's player of the year five times since 2011 by fans.

Leon Goretzka, 23, Lars Stindl, 29, and Thomas Mueller, 28, have also played well for Germany in the attacking midfield role.

"It was about me respecting the highest office of my family's country".

"I think we don't have a problem".

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Ozalan from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, said: "I congratulate Mesut Ozil". After Ozil announced his retirement, Hoeness had said in an interview to Sport Bild, "I am glad that this scare is now over".
