World Emoji Day 2018

World Emoji Day 2018

Apple is celebrating the occasion by giving users a look at the new emoji characters headed to the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac later this year.

Microblogging site Twitter also released a list of the top ten emojis used on its platform that included the "heart, fire, thumbs up and heart eyes" smileys.

Apple is celebrating by unveiling some new emojis that will be launched later this year.

Eleven years later, in 2010, emojis were translated into Unicode, which made them widely available worldwide, and by then their number had grown substantially - to 722.

New food emojis will also debut in the update, featuring mooncake, mango, cupcake and even bak choy.

The update adds red, white, bald, and curly hair emoji, which is a huge deal for those who previously did not have a correct style to use.

The Unicode Consortium-which manages the release of new emojis-first announced the upgrade back in February.

Facebook's least popular emojis include "Person Playing Water Polo", "Man in Suit Levitating" "1 Keycap Digit One" and "Mouse Face".

The change also seems to be an early celebration for World Emoji Day, an unofficial holiday to celebrate the ubiqitous emoticons, which is on Tuesday.

Speaking of which, there's still no word on exactly what day we're supposed to finally see these new emojis on our phones.

Emojis give Twitter users the opportunity to express joy, sorrow, anger, sadness, love or many other feelings and actions.

The announcement came just ahead of the fifth annual World Emoji Day, the brainchild of Jeremy Burge, founder of Emojipedia, an online catalog of emojis.

Other emoji that have been added include a sports emoji for softball, a superhero emoji, and emoji for symbols such as the nazar amulet and the infinity symbol.
