'World's Ugliest Dog' Zsa Zsa dies

Zsa Zsa, an English bulldog who won the title of "World's Ugliest Dog" in California last month, died Monday night in her sleep.

Zsa Zsa is known for her pink toenails and long tongue.

"I'm in shock still", Brainard told CNN sister network HLN.

Zsa Zsa - who's namesake is Zsa Zsa Gabor - had entered the World's Ugliest Dog competition before, but 2018 was her year.

Facebook Zsa Zsa, the World's Ugliest Dog, tragically passed away just days after winning her esteemed title, her devastated owner confirmed Tuesday afternoon. "It was sweet. She was waving at her", Megan Brainard told Today.

"She is just so ugly, she's attractive", Brainard told The New York Times last month.

Despite enjoying her success just two weeks ago, she sadly passed away in her sleep at the age of nine, according to United States news outlet Today.

However, Zsa Zsa spent over half of her life in a puppy mill before she was rescued by a non-profit organisation and adopted by Ms Brainard.

Brainard said that the passing of her beloved pet was "devastating" and that her family were still processing the loss.

After her big win, Zsa Zsa's family said, "We are so excited for her, she deserves this".

Then her fortune charges on June 23, when she and Brainard won $1,500, "a very large trophy" and a flight to NY to appear on "Today".

Some years, winning dogs have been expected abuse victims, or been given points for an "oozing sore". "We were all saying our goodbyes".

"From the moment we saw her attractive face, we knew we would be her forever home", Brainard said at the time.

After the victory, Mrs Brainard declared: "From the moment we saw her lovely face, we knew we would be her forever home".

"She knew she was special", said Brainard.

"From the moment we saw her handsome face, we knew we would be her forever home", her owners said in a statement on the contest's website.
