Liverpool complete impressive pre-season with Torino win

Brazil's number one, who impressed with his performances at the World Cup finals in Russian Federation, will take over the gloves from Loris Karius, who made two mistakes in the Reds' Champions League final defeat.

An hour after the end of Liverpool's 3-1 win over Torino, Klopp and his players were still pitchside, signing autographs for fans and posing for selfies. His squad looks deep, sharp and impressive five days ahead of a league season carrying high expectation.

Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has upset some of the fans who once adored him, by highlighting what he believes is the gulf between Liverpool and last season's Premier League champions Manchester City.

As well as the close-season signings, the arrival in January of Virgil van Dijk brought much-needed solidity and stability to the centre of defence and with Joe Gomez and Nathianel Clyne back to fitness, there are increased options at fullback.

The 25-year-old will be a vital cog in the Liverpool machine as they attempt to push on and become real contenders for the Premier League title, and Robertson has been nothing but praiseworthy of the Brazilian.

It didn't take too long for Liverpool to make amends however.

It mattered little as Roberto Firmino opened the scoring with a deflected effort in the 21st minute after Mohamed Salah slalomed across the field. Salah's driving run across the box teed the striker up for a shot which found the top corner via a deflection.

Liverpool should have taken the lead moments earlier when gifted a hugely generous penalty by referee Michael Oliver.

Torino did pull one back through Andrea Belotti shortly thereafter.

Sturridge extended the lead with a glancing header from Xherdan Shaqiri's cross late on.

Henderson had a hard start to life as a Liverpool player when he joined the club in 2011 from Sunderland, but for the past few seasons has transformed into a dependable option in the middle of the pitch.
