Melania Breaks With Donald Trump Over Controversial LeBron James Tweet

Even Republican John Kasich took Mr Trump to task for his comments on James.

Trump traveled to a high school north of Columbus for a political rally Saturday night.

Trump responded with a tweet Friday evening.

'Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. James teamed up with Akron (Ohio) Public Schools system to create the elementary school.

This reaction comes on the heels of the four-time MVP, three-time Finals MVP and NBPA first vice-president opening the I Promise School - supported by the LeBron James Foundation - to 240 at-risk kids.

Just hours after United States President Donald Trump insulted LeBron James, first lady Melania Trump issued a statement supporting the basketball star and praising the work he is doing with children. "He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do".

The US President has come under fire for attacking James' intelligence and suggesting that Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan is a better basketballer.

Last month, when the New York Times published a story claiming Mr. Trump became frustrated when the first lady's TV was turned to CNN instead of Fox News, Grisham issued a statement to CNN saying the first lady can watch "any channel she wants".

Jordan also voiced his support for James in the feud, telling NBC News "I support LJ". I like Mike!' Trump posted on Friday evening, appearing to reference Michael Jordan. "He is doing an wonderful job for his community". In the interview, James reiterated his criticism of the president as racially insensitive.

Trump's thinly veiled tweet led to a sharp response from Lemon. He added that he loved National Basketball Association greats James and Michael Jordan, as well as former Denver Nuggets player Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

Trump has long denounced the media - CNN in particular - and rarely lets a slight go unnoticed.

James added that, "sports has never been something that divides people".

And all of this was in flawless timing to of Trump's rally in Delaware County, Ohio on Saturday afternoon. Ben Simmons said James is "a smart dude (and one of the most thoughtful athletes we have). You're a constant embarrassment".
