The Eagles’ Greatest Hits Surpasses Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ as Best-Selling Album

The Eagles’ Greatest Hits Surpasses Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ as Best-Selling Album

The compilation is now certified 38-times platinum, calculated by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) from a combination of album sales and streams.

RIAA also said that the Eagles' "Hotel California", released in 1977, is now 26x platinum and makes it the third best-selling album of all-time. Do you own either Thriller or the Eagles' greatest hits collection?

And it also seems worth mentioning that Hotel California, Eagles' 1976 album, is the #3 best-seller of all time, with sales of 26 million. That officially puts it ahead of Thriller, which has been certified 33x platinum. One platinum marker used to be equivalent to selling one million albums, but starting in 2013 the RIAA has incorporated streaming numbers from YouTube, Spotify, and other digital music services into their sales figures.

The Eagles' Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, released in 1976, has finally surpassed Michael Jackson's Thriller to become the best-selling album of all time, reports the AP.

Eagles' songwriter Don Henley has made a statement on the achievement.

After the death of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey in 2016 at the age of 67, the group was reconfigured and resumed touring the following year. Though they broke up in 1980, the band got back together in 1994. Sales and streams for "Thriller" were last updated a year ago.

Since Frey passed away in 2017, the band has toured with Vince Gill in the singer's place. The platinum certification was once equivalent to selling one million albums or tracks for a platinum album or record, respectively.
