UCF ranked No. 21 in preseason AP top 25 poll

Clemson, is gunning for a fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs, Georgia was a whisker from winning the championship last season and Ohio State is the favorite to win the Big 10.

Alabama is making its sixth appearance at No. 1 in the AP's preseason poll. The AP released its preseason top 25 Monday morning and OU is ranked No. 7. Alabama becomes just the second program to ever be ranked No. 1 in three straight AP preseason polls. Georgia opens in Athens with Austin Peay, Clemson hosts Furman, Ohio State has Oregon State in Columbus and Alabama plays Louisville, all on September 1.

UCF has appeared in the AP Top 25 poll 22 previous times.

Central Florida debuted as the highest ranked Group of Five team in the poll. TCU is ranked No. 16, West Virginia is No. 17 and Texas is No. 23. The ACC, Pac-12 and Big 12 followed with four.

The rankings are set by listing the teams' point totals from highest to lowest. One huge factor for the team was a freshman running back named Jonathan Taylor, who took the entire conference by storm in year one.

OU opens the 2018 season by hosting Florida Atlantic on September 1 at 11 a.m. CT at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Earlier in the month, Alabama was ranked as the No. 1 team in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll, receiving 61 of the 65 possible first-place votes.
