West Brom surprise contenders for Carlos Sanchez

He is best known in England for this spell but it was not a good one as he was part of the Villa side that were relegated from the Premier League. West Ham were already interested but now West Brom have joined the race to sign him.

The 29-year-old joined the Hammers after spending two years on loan with Deportivo La Caruna since 2017.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Espanyol.

He told the club's official website on the back of sizeable investment under new boss Manuel Pellegrini: "The club is doing well with improvements in all the areas, in the team, but also in all the staff they have brought in with the manager".

Perez arrived at the Olympic Stadium for just £4m - not even a quarter of the £17m the Gunners paid Deportivo la Coruna in 2016.

West Ham United made two further signings on transfer deadline day to take their total summer spending to nearly £100 million, behind only Liverpool, Chelsea and Fulham in the entire Premier League.

Perez signed a three-year contract with the Hammers that sees him reunite with former Arsenal teammate, Jack Wilshere.

Director of Football Mario Husillos has expressed his happiness of landing the Spaniard saying he is very experienced and will help West Ham score goals and be creative up front.

Not content with having Lucas Perez lined-up, Manuel Pellegrini is also pushing to bolster his side's midfield ranks with the addition of Fiorentina's Carlos Sanchez - who will be remembered for his previous spell at Aston Villa, where he left a lot to be desired.

"His style is different from the other strikers we have available to us, and that gives the manager more options for our attacking play", Husillos said.
