Chrome Turns 10 and Gets a Bunch of New Features

The revamp brings along a Material Theme and nifty features across platforms. Yet it's the most popular browser in use and the favorite target of web developers. Chrome's always had a password manager, but this new version will be more proactive, generating passwords for you - pushing users away from recycling their passwords.

We've also significantly improved the way Chrome handles passwords. Chrome will save it, and next time you sign in, it'll be there across the plaforms you use Chrome on. Google has adopted its Material Design 2 philosophy to give the browser an all-new design, which is a welcome move. The tabs and corners all get a rounded shape, and even the Omnibox is pill-shaped. "You can find more information in this public bug report", a Google spokesperson said last night after first user complaints started surfacing online. On desktop, you can see a cleaner, vertical look to the tabs that are meant to make better use of the top of the browser while keeping the tabs visible for ease of navigation. To put all of these new features to the test yourself, be sure to update your Chrome browser now. Those using iOS will now notice that the toolbar for the browser has been brought to the bottom of the screen, making it more convenient and easier to navigate.

On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store.

4 updates coming to Google Chrome for its 10th birthday

Chrome 69 is one of the few releases of the browser that makes modifications to the user interface. Previously, the tiles on the new tab page were automatically generated based on the sites you commonly visit. But more than just a new look, the new design also serves a functional objective. However you feel, Google is giving Chrome a major visual update to celebrate this milestone. It can more accurately fill in your passwords, addresses, and credit card numbers as all this information is saved to your Google account, and can also now be accessed directly from the Chrome toolbar.

Although most of the changes are purely aesthetic in nature, some of them will likely help you be more productive in Chrome 69. Chrome 69 also allows for more personalisation, enabling shortcut creation and management from the new tab page. Rather than wait for a page to load to answer a simple question, it will show you weather and factoids right then and there in the list of results. When it comes to tabs, there are improved previews of tabs and also a quick way to toggle between incognito, current tabs and those synced to your desktop.

Under the hood are further security tweaks and fixes to features like the ad blocker, site isolation, and patches for 40 known security issues.
