While there were no confirmed reports of additional injuries at the time of publication, TVG confirmed that all of its personnel were safe and accounted for.

The man had been trying to buy a ticket to the concert featuring the rapper Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, the department said in a statement.

A man who was told no more tickets were available for an Ice Cube concert at a California racetrack was shot Sunday night by a sheriff's deputy after the man fired a gun into a crowd. "Deputies engaged and returned fire", the statement said.

The unidentified suspect was taken to a hospital. Commentators screamed "there's gunfire at the track", before abandoning their posts and fleeing.

The concert, for which tickets were sold out, was scheduled to follow a full slate of horse races at the track, the station reported.

"An argument ensued at the gate and nearby deputies responded".

The concert was scheduled for the Del Mar Racetrack at the fairgrounds about 21 miles north of downtown San Diego. The man pulled out a silver plated semi-automatic handgun and fired several shots into a crowded area. Just half an hour after the shooting, and with the day's racing finished, the racecourse tweeted that the gangsta rap gig would go ahead as planned.

Just before 7.30pm, the Del Mar Racetrack tweeted: 'The situation has been contained.

Shots have been fired at Del Mar racecourse, with gunfire heard as horses were crossing the finish line in the final race of the day.
