President and Stars Join in Epic Farewell to Queen of Soul

"I personally and sincerely apologize to Ariana and to her fans and to the whole Hispanic community", Ellis said.

Bishop Charles Ellis III of Greater Grace knows well of the boldface guest list and surrounding pomp and circumstance, but he has a higher mission in mind for the service that may well exceed five hours.

How did Aretha Franklin die?

The Rev. Jesse Jackson comforted actress Cicely Tyson and Franklin's family members comforted one another.

"Ariana Grande baby that's not what you wear to a funeral", one user tweeted, with someone else comparing her outfit to "how you look when you come straight to church after being out at the club".

Between the star-studded appearances and heartfelt tributes, here's how family, friends and famous fans said goodbye to the "Queen of Soul".

"This woman got us all in these seats here today not because she had this breathtaking talent, which she did... but because she lived with courage - not without fear, but overcoming her fears".

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced at the ceremony that Franklin will be honored with the renaming of riverfront concert venue Chene Park to Aretha Franklin Park.

He noted Franklin's commitment to her beliefs, even after great commercial success, suggesting the riches and fame that followed hits like "Respect" and "Chain of Fools" could have pulled her away.

VICTORIE FRANKLIN: And when I would go to her shows and watch her sing, it would be the best feeling in the world.

Late Friday, Franklin was laid to rest in a mausoleum at Woodlawn Cemetery, the final resting place of her father and two of her sisters.

Sapp wouldn't reveal what he will perform Friday, but said every song is one picked out by Franklin. "Aretha commanded respect. She deservedly received it and also made it possible for others".

As for why some clients don't make out a will, Laura Zwicker, an attorney who specializes in estate planning but is not affiliated with the Franklin estate, says she sees it happen all too often.

"She was blessed to have the powerful gift of singing, perhaps the most remarkable voice, and most unique, the world has ever heard".

Sharpton also read a letter from former President Obama, who could not attend the funeral because he is scheduled to eulogize Sen.

Former president Bill Clinton joked that he and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were "Aretha groupies".

The daughter of a prominent Baptist preacher and civil rights activist, she sang at the funeral of Martin Luther King Jr, as well as the inaugurations of presidents Clinton and Obama.

TSIOULCAS: Robinson sang "Really Gonna Miss You" cappella, his voice sweetly piping out alone across the hushed church.
