Unai Emery insists Mesut Ozil relationship remains strong

Unai Emery insists Mesut Ozil relationship remains strong

The retired Germany worldwide was back for the 3-2 win against Cardiff City a fortnight ago, but he again failed to last the full 90 minutes in South Wales.

Ozil has started all but one of Unai Emery's Premier League matches and featured in a variety of different positions but what does the Spaniard believe is his player's best?

"He had a relaxing three days off at the weekend. Here for me it isn't for a lot of the time speaking about what people are telling us", Emery was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"The reason is that I am pleased with the last two victories in the Premier League and also with the performances and I want to push every player to be okay to help the team if for one minute, 30 minutes or half-time or 90 minutes".

Ozil quit worldwide football so will be well rested heading into the game against the Magpies. The former German global is one of the best players on the planet when on top form but those moments have been too rare in an Arsenal shirt.

"First, I knew Monreal in Spain when he was playing in Osasuna and in Malaga", Emery said.

"Mesut, like other players, works very well here and also working the ties and also together to improve things". Now it is very important for me to think first [about] the match against Newcastle [at the weekend], we need to win the three points and then think the same for the Europa League.

Ozil has looked slightly out of place when Emery has deployed him on the right wing rather his normal central role as a No. 10, but Emery reiterated that the German is happy switching between the two.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis' future looks less certain, though, with AC Milan having re-opened negotiations with him.

Emery insists he has had no talks about Gazidis leaving.
