What's the deal? Jimmy Butler reportedly requests trade from Timberwolves

Jimmy Butler reportedly has asked the Timberwolves to trade him, with his eye on three teams. The removal of his $18.6 million helps New York's chances at offering a max deal, so it's no guarantee he's around to see this team take off after July 1.

It looks like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jimmy Butler might be destined for divorce earlier than most would have predicted.

Taking on one of their less desirable contracts, like center Gorgui Dieng (he'll earn $48.5 million over the next three seasons), could be enticing enough for the Wolves to bite.

Actually making the trade could be a complicated affair, particularly since Thibodeau reportedly is not interested in making a deal to move Butler.

Beat writer Jon Krawczynski reports in The Athletic that veteran guard and clubhouse presence Jimmy Butler has requested that he be traded less than a week before training camp is set to open.

Butler, 29, has a player option in 2019-20 before becoming a free-agent.

Butler went to IG when Wiggins brother celebrated the news Butler wanted out.

And it worked! Even though Butler was available for only 59 games, the Timberwolves clinched a playoff spot on the last night of the regular season, and they avoided a sweep before the Houston Rockets eliminated them in the quarterfinals. L.A. could also offer 2018 lottery picks Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jerome Alexander. Butler might have slept with Karl-Anthony Towns' girlfriend and he has called out Wiggins.

Teague is 30, and if Butler isn't in the picture anymore, Minnesota is better off focusing on building something sustainable rather than trying to win immediately. Prior to his time in Minnesota, the four-time All-Star spent six seasons with the Bulls.
