Huawei Mate 20 Pro Launch

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Launch

With a 7.2” screen, we hesitate to call the Huawei Mate 20 X a phone. Huawei insisted on stage that its Mate 20 phones are the best phones out there when it comes to processor and RAM speed, Wi-Fi downloads, Global Positioning System accuracy, camera performance, and battery performance. If you like the sound of it, you'll be able to grab the Huawei Mate 20 X for €899 (around £790/$1,040/AU$1,460) when it goes on sale from October 26.

Huawei has launched three new smartphones: the much anticipated Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X, the latter of which builds on the Pro variant with a bigger screen and battery. The Mate 20 features 16-megapixel ultra wide angle, 12-megapixel, wide angle, and 8-megapixel telephoto sensors. It is also expected that the Mate 20 series smartphones will come equipped with in-display fingerprint sensor and a new facial recognition technology.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Huawei Mate 20 flaunts a 6.53-inch display, while the Mate 20 Pro flaunts a 6.39-inch display.

The Mate 20 Pro will also ship with a 24-megapixel front-facing camera that will allow for face unlocking functionality, WinFuture added.

The smaller Mate 20 has a "teardrop" style cutout. Place a Qi-compatible smartphone in direct contact with the Mate 20 Pro to charge this phone using the Mate 20 Pro's huge 4,200mAh battery. The Mate 20 Pro has a nano-memory card slot like the Mate 20, making them both the first phones to support the new memory card size. But it still has a large 4,000mAh battery.

The Mate 20 retains a fingerprint sensor on its rear, and keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom as well.

However, unlike its predecessor, the Mate 20 Pro placed its modules in the centre of its rear glass panel.

But the star of the show is really the Kirin 980 chip set, with dual-NPUs inside that Huawei says can process images and analyse scenes in real time faster than any phone.

The Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are also the first Huawei devices to ship with Android 9 Pie, overlaid with its EMUI skin, with a simpler interface and gesture navigation. Lastly, the most expensive of the lot is Porsche Design Mate 20 RS which is priced at €1,695 (Rs 144,000 approximately) 8GB RAM with 256GB storage, and €2,095 (Rs 178,100 approximately) for 8GB RAM with 512GB storage.

Huawei Mate 20 could feature a 6.3-inch (2244 x 1080 pixel) AMOLED display.
