Los Angeles Dodgers fans boo Dave Roberts before World Series Game 5

It was nearly too much to take for Los Angeles fans who watched the Boston Red Sox take the series in five games Sunday by winning 5-1, the same score of the Houston Astros' series-clinching win a year earlier.

But Sunday night marked the biggest milestone for the first-year manager: winning the World Series. Boston traded an unheralded minor league infielder for Steve Pearce in late June; Pearce was named World Series MVP after a performance than included three home runs and nine RBIs-seven of those RBIs coming in the final two games.

Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez added solo home runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively.

Pearce struck again in the eighth with another homer before pitcher Chris Sale closed off the game in the following inning.

Roberts, who doesn't have a contract beyond this season, has caught flak for a number of his decisions in this series, which the Boston Red Sox lead 3-1. He then showed he was truly over what he called "the hump" with a strong six-inning outing and a win in Game 2 of the Series.

There's a decent chance these teams would still be playing right now if Devers hadn't fueled the rally with his RBI base hit (yes, even if you are reading this tomorrow, the game might still be going on if it weren't for Devers).

"I would definitely love it", he said. "I don't think anything, it just feels good because you're World Series champions".

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill is relieved by Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts during the seventh inning in Game 4 of the World Series baseball game on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, in Los Angeles. Price set down 14 straight at one point and allowed just three hits while working into the eighth inning, condemning Los Angeles to suffer a second straight runner-up finish in its home park.

Spanning the regular season and postseason, Boston won a total of 119 games, the third-highest total in baseball history. He might be remembered as the scapegoat for the Dodgers' failure, and he is indeed the easy target: the mercenary who was brought in to win a title and who did not, and who wasn't around long enough for anyone to get attached. He became the first to pitch into the eighth inning of a Series game on one day of rest since the Yankees' Bob Turley in 1957.

For Boston, starter David Price was brilliant.

"Chris is okay", Cora said.

Pearce is headed to free agency, but after the thump he provided against left-handed pitching this year, the Red Sox should be hot on his trail. Cora said he imagined his home town "going crazy" after the Red Sox's World Series win.

Boston went 7-1 on the road in the postseason and 10-0 overall when scoring first.

It's been quite a year for Alex Cora.

"I guess we're streaking now", he said.

Roberts' decision to pull Hill triggered a slew of debate on Twitter, with Trump weighing in to say: "It is incredible how a manager takes out a pitcher who is loose & dominating through nearly 7 innings, Rich Hill of Dodgers, and brings in nervous reliever (s) who get shellacked". It's one of the many traits that made him such a great manager in his first season in Boston, and why so many believe even more good times are ahead for the Cora-led Red Sox.
