National Football League players, LeBron react to Drew Brees becoming all-time passing leader

Brees will go down as one of the best quarterbacks EVER to play the game. Thanks to you, that's over now, and you've ruined that for me. Manning threw 539 touchdowns in his career.

The 39-year-old Brees passed Peyton Manning who held the record at 71,940 yards and Brett Favre who was in second place with 71,838 yards.

"Also, let this serve as the congratulations for the touchdown record because as you can see, I'm very busy", Manning added. In the press box, the Superdome catering staff served "beefy mac", a meal of macaroni with ground beef that has always been one of Brees' traditional meals on the night before games. Brees was fourth on the list heading into Monday night at 496.

Brees came into Week 5 not only leading the NFL in completion percentage, but with a mark higher than the 72.0 he posted past year, which set a single-season league record.

Plenty of other current and former National Football League players took to social media to congratulate Brees on Monday, too. "I think Drew's had a couple of big yardage seasons and maybe they haven't been winning as many games, so I think that can be a little bit misleading".

On a more serious note, Manning said Brees broke the record "the right way". "Credit to him for playing as long as he has, at such a high level". I've got to tell you it's been the greatest 1,000 days of my life. While making his mark in SD, Brees suffered a potentially career-ending shoulder injury in 2005 that caused many teams to pass on him in free agency.
