No victor in Mega Millions drawing, jackpot climbs to $868 million

Winning Mega Millions numbers in the October 16 drawing were: 3-45-49-61-69 and a Mega Ball of 9.

The game, which was created in 2002, has seen changes over the years that have reduced the chances of winning, meaning bigger and bigger jackpots.

The result is a staggering $900 million jackpot for Friday night's drawing. Those who take the cash will receive a one-time lump-sum equal to all the cash in the prize pool - which is $494 million for Friday's drawing. In January 2016, the Powerball jackpot hit almost $1.6 billion, making it the biggest Powerball jackpot in history, as well as the highest lottery grand prize in the US ever.

Mega Millions just keeps getting bigger and better. And one of those, sold in San Antonio, had the Megaplier option, available in most states for an extra $1. That jackpot has reached an estimated $345 million.

You can play Mega Millions in 46 localities: 44 states plus Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mega Millions tickets cost $2 per play and there are a total of nine ways to win a prize, ranging from the jackpot down to $2.

The dream is still alive for people playing the Mega Millions lottery.

The Powerball is set to be drawn Wednesday night.

Illinois Lottery brand ambassadors will start handing out Mega Millions tickets at 10:00 a.m.

In 2016, a $1.6 billion Powerball prize was split three ways by ticket holders from California, Florida and Tennessee.

Lottery officials urge players to check their tickets.
