Rooney calls on Man United players to 'stand up'

Mourinho, appointed United manager in May 2016, had been the subject of intense speculation in the build-up to the game with one UK newspaper reporting he faced the sack regardless of the result.

Romagnoli is reportedly also on Maurizio Sarri's radar for the January window, with the Chelsea boss still keen to strengthen defensively.

"The players, the manager, it has been a tough start to the season".

It was looking like the final nail had been hammered into Mourinho's coffin on Saturday evening, as his disorientated United side conceded two sloppy goals within the opening 10 minutes against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Manchester United legend Paul Scholes called for the sacking of Jose Mourinho claiming that the Portuguese has embarrassed the Premier League club.

"My feeling when I think of the great Manchester United teams, I think of the togetherness of the whole club", he said. "I said to the players we have be doing better", added Rooney.

Following a supposed leak that Jose Mourinho would be sacked following the game regardless of its result, United offered a terrible first half and then overturned a 2-0 deficit in the second.

"Sometimes I see a bit too much ego, as a fan sometimes I find it very disturbing".

His public criticism of Mourinho's tactics led to the decision with Ashley Young leading United out in recent weeks in Antonio Valencia's absence.

The Special One saw his side stage a sensational comeback on Saturday, winning 3-2 against Newcastle United thanks to a last-gasp goal from the allegedly unsettled Alexis Sanchez.

"They help me a lot to adapt and in everything, to learn English".

The FA can issue a touchline ban if the language is found to be "offensive, insulting or abusive".
