Best Windows laptops Black Friday deals: Dell, HP, Lenovo, and more

"Gone are the days when Black Friday simply meant checking the Sunday circulars to see which local retailers had the best deals", Consumer Reports noted in its shopping tips for 2018.

Which? discovered that almost half of the products on offer were sold for less in the six months following Black Friday, which covered the period December 2017 to May 2018. Which? found it was cheaper on at least 60 occasions after.

We compared this data with the price of the products on Black Friday itself.

Similarly, a Sony Cybershot HX60B Superzoom compact camera advertised by Currys PC World as £189 (save £10) on Black Friday was £10 cheaper at least 27 times in June and July 2017. Expect to see sales on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Nintendo Eshop, Steam, and other PC storefronts like Humble, Fanatical, and Green Man Gaming.

Black Friday deals not such a bargain after all

Of course there are certainly deals to be had, and prices are often considerably lower on Black Friday than at other times of year. Moreover, as Black Friday promotions push earlier into November, even the distinction between shopping on Black Friday and the days beforehand is becoming less apparent.

Unique bargains were scarce - only 13% of the products we tracked were at their very cheapest price of the year on Black Friday (meaning that the same price wasn't found on any other day). Before you get too excited, we want you to know that Apple doesn't usually offer great deals on its products, so you'll be better off shopping elsewhere (i.e. Amazon, Best Buy, B&H).

That said, common sale items this Black Friday, like the PS4 Slim with Spider-Man for $200 and $100 discounts on Xbox One S and X, are likely to continue through Cyber Monday at many retailers.

Generally, the same retailers that have Black Friday sales will try to keep customers coming back on Cyber Monday. A John Lewis spokesman said its Never Knowingly Undersold pledge means it cuts prices to match competitors. For just $599.99 on Black Friday - $200 off - you get a Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6-inch full HD display, and an GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of GDDR5 video memory. Total retail spending over the Black Friday weekend is predicted to hit £8.3billion, the Centre for Retail Research said. We also found that the price of some products can vary by as much as 50% through the year, and often outside of sales periods or Black Friday.
