Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has managed to avoid an embarrassing defeat in bright red Texas, beating Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke in the widely watched US Senate race.

The fuzzy, felt-skinned creation of veteran comedy writer Robert Smigel showed up on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night to unveil a video documenting the Texas senate race. With that in mind, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog strapped on a little cowboy hat and headed down to the Lone Star State to ask the candidates questions like "What's Ted Cruz have that you don't have?" We know that the hard-left right now, they're angry. Ted Cruz in Texas fell short on Tuesday despite a fundraising effort that raised a record-setting amount of campaign donations.

Beto O'Rourke grabbed glowing national headlines by visiting all 254 Texas counties and often drawing large crowds - even in fiercely conservative areas other Democrats had long since written off.

Next up was Harlingen, Texas, where Triumph announced, "I'm here at the Ted Cruz rally, or a Duck Dynasty cosplay convention, not 100 percent sure".

"The Trump administration has "done quite enough to intimidate voters without staging military rehearsals on the day our nation exercises our most important democratic obligation", Burke said". Shortly before they were about to start, officers on the scene said they were postponed. O'Rourke supported various progressive initiatives, including the implementation of universal health care and looser immigration laws.

The high-profile 11th hour endorsement came as American voters were pouring into polling stations to wrap a heated midterm campaign seen as a test of Donald Trump's contentious presidency.

In 2016, Cruz ran for president in a crowded GOP primary.

Cruz scoffed at the notion that O'Rourke could beat him. "I think we have every indication, based on turnout so far, that we're going to have a very good day tomorrow".
