Michael Cohen pleads guilty to lying to Congress

Following news of Michael Cohen's new plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, his longtime friend Donny Deutsch hinted that while he's in hot water for admittedly lying to Congress, he remains a key Russian Federation probe source from President Donald Trump's inner circle.

Cohen's plea arrangement made clear that prosecutors believe that while Trump insisted repeatedly throughout the campaign that he had no business dealings in Russian Federation, his lawyer was continuing to pursue the Trump Tower Moscow project weeks after his boss had clinched the Republican nomination for president and well after the point he and his associates have publicly acknowledged.

Trump's opponents faulted what they called the deepening air of criminality around the president's sometime-associates, several of whom have pleaded guilty in the Russian Federation case or associated investigations. Both men are caught up in Mueller's Russian Federation investigation over claims that they may have conspired with WikiLeaks while the organization was releasing emails and documents that painted a poor picture of Democrat Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election. While the president does have executive authority to pardon any individual, Jackson Lee said any sign of "attachments or quid pro quos" to the pardon, such as Manafort hiding damaging information about Trump from investigators, would be "worthy of investigating".

The Washington Post reported a year ago Mr Cohen had emailed Dmitry Peskov, Mr Putin's spokesman, seeking his help in advancing a stalled Trump Tower development project in Moscow at the same time Mr Trump was running for president. In fact, he continued working on the project at least through June of that year, even discussing the possibility of Trump visiting Russian Federation after the Republican National Convention, prosecutors say.

Cohen is set to be sentenced for lying to Congress on December 12. And lying to investigators, Mueller's office asserted, was an egregious violation of that agreement.

"Granting a pardon, if the objective is to affect his testimony in any way, would be a very serious crime on a part of the president", Nadler said.

Cohen said he also lied about his contacts with Russian officials, lied when he said he never agreed to travel to Russia in connection with the project and never discussed with Trump plans to travel to Moscow to support the project.

What did President Trump say?

Asked by reporters if she was concerned about Mr Cohen's plea, top House of Representatives Democrat Nancy Pelosi said, "Of course, he lied to the American people".

Michael Cohen, the real life incarnation of Barry Zuckercorn from Arrested Development, plead guilty to telling EVEN MORE lies on behalf of President Donald Trump-the shady character known in the guilty plea as Individual 1.

In August, Mr Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations, tax evasion and bank fraud in a case brought by federal prosecutors in NY.

The document does not identify Individual 2, but people familiar with the investigation said it is Sater.

Trump Jr. testified that he knew "very little" about the deal.

Cohen did agree to travel to Russian Federation in connection with the Trump Tower Moscow project "and took steps in contemplation of [Trump's] possible travel to Russia", according to court papers. But both Mueller's and Manafort's legal teams requested in their Monday court filing that a judge move forward without delay in scheduling a sentencing hearing, making it unclear whether the February sentencing date could be moved up. The president has denied having affairs with the women. Guidelines call for little to no prison on the new charge.
