The first transgender woman to compete in the Miss Universe pageant is making history.

"Bringing the name and colors of Spain before the universe is my great dream", Ponce wrote on Instagram after his victory.

"The tribute to miss spain was so handsome", wrote one user.

Ashley Graham was injured backstage while taking on hosting duties at the 2018 Miss Universe pageant.

It had local pageant enthusiasts and fans giddy with hope of another Miss Universe crown.

She also walked down the runway. She further added, "Trans women have been persecuted and erased for so long".

I deleted my Instagram at one point and I just didn't look at anything.

The video featured Ponce's struggles from childhood as a member of the LGBTQ community until she finally made it to Thailand. To which she responded saying, "At least I have the regional crown on my head".

While the Miss Universe Organization announced that it was allowing transwomen candidates to participate back in 2012, it was only this year when someone actually made it into the competition.

Messages of support were pouring in Sunday on Twitter after Ponce's exit.
