UAE flag raised over reopened embassy in Syrian capital after 7 years

The newspaper said the visit comes to "reunite the Arab ranks", citing diplomatic sources as saying that a visit of Egyptian officials to Syria is expected to come next.

Oman, with its policy of quiet diplomacy, is the only Gulf Arab country to have kept its embassy in Damascus open throughout the civil war.

"The UAE decision.came after a conviction that the next stage requires the Arab presence and communication in the Syrian file", tweeted Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Emad al-Nadaf, a Syrian political expert, told Xinhua that the resumption of the diplomatic relations between the UAE and Syria is an indication about the recovery of Syria, hoping that more countries would follow next.

In 2011, the UAE closed its embassy in Damascus after the eruption of the Syrian uprising and the subsequent crackdown on protesters by the Assad regime.

The sudden withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria has also increased the security anxieties of Arab countries, Zou said, encouraging them to adjust their policies.

"The Kingdom of Bahrain has announced that work is continuing at its embassy in the brotherly Arab Republic of Syria", state news agency BNA said in a statement, adding that flights had also been operating between the two countries without interruption.

Talal Hassan, president of the Syrian community association in Tunisia, said this initiative reflects the friendship between the Syrian and Tunisian peoples, according to a Xinhua report.

The move is seen as another step in efforts to bring the regime of President Bashar al-Assad back into the Arab fold after years of diplomatic isolation.

Bashir said Sudan is ready to provide whatever is needed to support the territorial integrity and unity of Syria.

All three countries were also involved in CIA-led logistics hubs that trained and equipped opposition fighters.

In 2011, Syria was evicted from 22-member Arab League.

At the time analysts told Xinhua that the visit could be a prelude to restoring normal Arab relations with Syria.
