'Bird Box' challenge to blame for auto wreck in Utah, police say

Shockingly, the teen crashed into another vehicle because it's not easy to drive when you can not see.

The "Bird Box Challenge" takes its name from a recent Netflix movie "Bird Box", in which the characters must remain blindfolded.

The driver then pulled a beanie over her eyes and kept driving.

The popularity of the challenge even prompted Netflix to issue a warning against unsafe behavior.

This week the same advice came from Layton police department. Driving is one of the most inherently unsafe things we do, and this kind of willful disregard for the safety of others should be grounds for an immediate and long-lasting suspension, just like a DUI. "We shouldn't have to say this, but we're gonna: Don't drive blindfolded".

A 12-year-old USA girl gave herself burns to about 50 per cent of her body last year.

However, police have requested that the driver be charged with reckless driving, Lt Lyman said.

In the Netflix horror hit, which has inspired tons of memes and viral activity since its December 13 debut, Malorie (Sandra Bullock) resorts to blindfolding herself out of necessity (out of necessity, people!), in order to avoid any glimpse of the insanity-inducing evil menace that stalks her every step.

She tries to guide her children - referred to as Boy and Girl - to safety along a treacherous river and through a dense forest, all without being able to see.

"Bird Box Challenge while driving.predictable result", the Layton Police Department tweeted following the accident.

The film, however, has since inspired the #BirdBoxChallenge, which features people trying to do daily - and sometimes harmful - tasks while their eyes are covered. This media house does not correct any spelling or grammatical error within press releases and commentaries.
