Broadway legend Carol Channing dies aged 97

Tributes poured in for Carol on Twitter with one person writing: "Goodbye to Carol Channing, with much gratitude to her for providing so much joy".

Late in her career, she did television guest appearances and did voice work on the animated series "Family Guy". All went well until the end, when the two fittingly flubbed the lyrics.

Channing then married her manager and publicist Charles Lowe in 1956 and even though it lasted 42 years she claimed in divorce proceedings in 1998 that they had only slept together twice and that he had mismanaged her finances. The White Queen in the TV special Alice in Wonderland (1985)3.

After moving to Los Angeles, she struggled for several years before landing the role of Marge Champion in another revue, Lend An Ear.

Channing was 97 and died at her home in Rancho Mirage, California.

"I admired her before I met her, and have loved her since the day she stepped. or fell rather, into my life", B. Harlan Boll added.

"We supported each other, cried with each other, argued with each other, but always ended up laughing with each other".

"But I know that when I feel those uncontrollable urges to laugh at everything and/or nothing at all, it will be because she is with me, tickling my amusing bone".
