Djokovic To Meet Bautista Agut In Doha After Beating 'Terrific' Basilashvili

Djokovic missed out on a title in his first tournament of the year after he was beaten by Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-finals of the Qatar Open.

Novak Djokovic can now exclusively focus on the singles tournament and a semi-final clash with Bautista Agut, who defeated Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-4 and is still yet to drop a set at the tournament.

The 30-year-old also has an outstanding record on Stanley Street. Bautista Agut romped through the Swiss in straight sets 6-4 6-4.

"Obviously, I'm not pleased that I lost the match today, but I lost to a better player in the end".

And the world number one would seal his success with a game won to love, Basilashvili whipping a forehand wide and long as Djokovic's endurance in a lengthy rally once again proved the difference.

"I can't be more happy than I am now". That's it, ' a frustrated Djokovic said in his post-match press conference.

The Serb cruised through the opening set before Bautista Agut dragged the contest into a decider by edging the tiebreak in the second set.

"I wanted to give everything I had in the match and fight until the last point", Bautista Agut added. Novak was up and it was tough.

"I think Stan is a really good player. I did everything well today".

"I will remember this match all my life", he said after the 3-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 win.

The first set was like a walk in the park for the World No.1 as his all-around game proved too solid for the seventh seed, with Djokovic winning it at 6-3.

When Bautista Agut broke back for 4-4, the Serbian was furious and lashed out.

With the momentum swinging his way, Bautista Agut secured an early break in the final set before closing out the match.

A new piece of equipment failed to bring the revival Djokovic had been hoping for, although he did save two set points in a nine-minute service game to force a tie-break.
