Kawhi Leonard’s return to San Antonio not just another game

For Raptors fans, Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green's first game back in San Antonio didn't end up being about happy returns.

Kawhi Leonard hears boos throughout the game as he would finish with 21 points.

However Spurs coach Popovich was in no mood to revisit the circumstances of Leonard's departure on Wednesday.

San Antonio's AT&T Center is the stage Thursday for the Raptors' most anticipated game so far this season.

He said he feels nothing personal when it comes to Leonard.

- Isaiah Thomas (@isaiahthomas) January 4, 2019Let us come to your job and BOO you for 2hrs for you looking out for YOURSELF when teams time after time do what's best for THEM! It doesn't matter who we're playing. "I hope for one [reaction], predict and guess another. I think for both sides the guys that have been in the trade and have been moved and played for both organizations, it's definitely probably a little more".

The Spurs' suffocating defense, scoring runs and fans' unrelenting contempt for the opposing team's star player have often overwhelmed the opposition.

Popovich and Leonard hugged and had a long discussion after the Spurs' win over the Raptors on Thursday.

"This was really disappointing for all of us, from Pop and our program to our players", Buford told ESPN.

In a video that's been gaining popularity on Twitter, a woman believed to be Leonard's mother can be seen yelling at an obnoxious Spurs fan in the section next to her's within the venue.

"I just wanted to go out and have fun", said DeRozan. "You've got to love to play in that type of atmosphere, whether it's at home or on the road".

"We didn't do a good job in transition, defense", Leonard said.

"I can't speak for him, but I know it's definitely not just another game, for sure".

The 2014 NBA Finals MVP had become public enemy number one in his old stomping grounds since he forced a trade to the Raptors in the offseason. I'm waiting to see just like everybody else. However, it sure seemed like he completely quit on the team past year because he wanted out.
