The two sides played each other four times last season, with Liverpool ending City's 22-match unbeaten start before knocking them out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals.

"Unfortunately we lost our previous two [against Crystal Palace and Leicester] and we have a rival who, at the moment, is the best team in Europe or in the top four in the world and that is Liverpool".

A win would make the Reds huge favourites for their first league title in 29 years and City are ready to pull out all the stops.

"We never forget who we are".

The club will know that they can ill afford to drop more points at St Mary's, with the crunch clash against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium coming up next Thursday.

"The way we played was attacking and we scored the goals".

City go into the game having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 10 matches.

"Maybe I'm wrong but all players everywhere want to do well".

Mohamed Salah was first accused of diving in the box during his side's win over Newcastle on Boxing Day, with former Premier League referee Mark Halsey claiming that Salah should receive a two-game ban and Burnley boss Sean Dyche slamming the English FA for not banning him.

"Today for us it's a clear example that if we are not consistent enough, with not only good quality during the game, and the right energy, it's hard to compete for big things", said a disappointed Mauricio Pochettino. "We can not play that game and we don't".

"I don't know how he is", said Guardiola.

Liverpool fans can take heart from this as well as the fact that Jurgen Klopp's men are showing no signs of slowing down.

"The difference in the Champions League [second leg] game is they [City] obviously had to win by four goals or whatever so they had to come out". This is Arsenal. They're flat-track bullies, they'll beat the lesser teams all day long.

"We don't go there to take Man City out of the race, we go there for a Premier League game", he said. "We'll be wary of that but we need to be at our best and if we can, we can cause any team problems". Liverpool know what they have to do and we know what we have to do.

"In the end for us it's not really important where we stand because we want to win games and we want to win games until the end".
