Liverpool's Gomez to have leg surgery

Liverpool's Gomez to have leg surgery

The Switzerland worldwide told the Reds' official website: "We are not robots and we sometimes have not the best days, that's pretty normal".

"It's a blow for the boy and for us - because prior to the injury he was in such fantastic shape", Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool's official website. "That is what we tried previous year".

Gomez is expected to be out for a minimum of six weeks, ruling him out of games against Manchester United, Everton and both legs against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

"First of all it is to play Champions League next year, that's very important, and we want to achieve big things in the future".

Last season, Liverpool were one of the strongest attacking sides in Europe but it was their defence that let them down each time. "We will make this intervention and then he will come back".

With regular right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold out injured, Klopp was questioned about his decision to allow Nathaniel Clyne to join Bournemouth on loan at the start of the January transfer window but the German said he had no regrets. Gomez and Virgil van Dijk had formed a superb partnership at centre back, conceding just four goals in the eleven Premier League matches they completed together.

Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri believes that West Ham United will offer tough opposition for the Reds at the London Stadium this evening, however he is sure the Hammers have their weaknesses. I don't know where he got that from to be honest but it's all good, he is entitled to his view.

Liverpool go into tonight's game having dropped points at home to Leicester in midweek. It was an bad result against Wimbledon and then again against Wolves. So that's the season. We can not change that. If we'd continued in that FA Cup, I don't think we would have been able to play all the games. But it's part of the game, part of the business that these decisions are made late April or May. We will see exactly how we do it.
