President Trump Preps for El Paso Rally

President Donald Trump is assailing Democrats over faltering border security negotiations.

In the interview with Winfrey this week, O'Rourke called Trump's push for the wall a "racist response to a problem we don't have".

The rally is about three miles away from Trump's event and is being called a "celebration of El Paso" or the "March for Truth". Some sported "Make America Great Again" hats, and said they were there to show their support for the construction of a wall at the border.

During his State of the Union address last week, the President made an inaccurate connection between El Paso's previously high crime rates and the construction of a border wall. In his State of the Union, President Donald Trump said a "powerful barrier" had cut crime rates and turned El Paso, Texas, from one of the nation's most unsafe cities to one of its safest.

The El Paso Times, responding to Paxton's claim last month, noted that violent crime in El Paso peaked in 1993 and dropped 34% between that year and 2006.

Former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) planned a rally on his home turf of El Paso, Texas, on Monday night to coincide with an event President Donald Trump is holding the same night in the same city.

New fencing was erected starting in 2008 and it was completed in 2009. Ted Cruz in 2018 and maintains an army of small-dollar donors and a large social media following. El Paso's had an estimated population of 683,577 people in 2017, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The El Paso rally is Trump's first since the November midterm elections and comes at a precarious moment for his presidency.

"Now, with a powerful barrier in place, El Paso is one of our safest cities", Trump said. Weakened by the longest government shutdown in American history, Trump is also contending with the ongoing investigation into Russian election meddling and a flurry of investigations by newly empowered majority Democrats in the House.
