Lynne Patton: I was not a 'prop' at Michael Cohen hearing

Noah found one of the funniest things that came out of the hearing is Trump trotting out former Trump Organization Executive Lynne Patton, "who is apparently Trump's only Black friend". She was introduced to the family by Cohen, and Patton became ingratiated in Trump's world.

Mayor Emanuel called the remarks allegedly made by President Trump as "disturbing". She started out in 2009 as an event planner, and then worked for The Eric Trump Foundation where she was eventually Vice President. In a hearing before the House Oversight Committee, President Trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen "delivered an opening statement that somehow managed to mention both the Holocaust and a porn star, and we were off to the races from there".

Patton was among the speakers at the Republican National Convention in 2016 and was a surrogate for the Trump campaign.

Her tenure at HUD has been marked by her outspoken and controversial personal tweets.

"She apologized. Did you accept her apology?"

Patton has since spoken out against the congresswoman's comments and accused her of being "more racist".

She said her appearance had nothing to do with her race.

Tlaib defended her actions during an interview Thursday on CNN. Patton's office is based in Manhattan.

"In the meantime, congressional Democrats are allowing Michael Cohen, a convicted liar, to testify against Trump publicly whilst the president is in Vietnam for a very important meeting with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un to continue denuclearization talks", said Laila.

"She says as a daughter of a man born in Birmingham, Alabama, that there is no way that she would work for an individual who was a racist", he added. But Patton did not speak during the hearing or provide that information.

An accusation of racism led to a heated exchange between two members of Congress during Michael Cohen's marathon testimony Wednesday.

In response, Republican Rep. Mark Meadows, who is white, pointed to one of Trump's African-American employees and now a member of the Administration, Lynne Patton, who was in attendance at the hearing.

"The fact that someone would actually use a prop, a black woman, in this chamber in this committee is alone racist in itself", Tlaib said.

Cohen is scheduled to report to prison May 6 to begin serving a three-year sentence. Tlaib, though, insisted that Meadows still committed "a racist act". Asked if she believes him to be a racist, Tlaib said, "Look, I feel like the act was, and that's up to the American people to decide whether or not he is".
